Dragon NaturallySpeaking Service Pack 2

Posted on June 30, 2004October 8, 2020

Service Pack 2, an update for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7.0, has been out for a few months (maybe a year; I’m not the swiftest about checking for updates). According to the long list of “fixes” on their web site, it’s supposed to fix a lot of things that needed, well, fixing.

The only two things I was hoping the update would do were 1) Keep IE from locking up when I try to access a link in a subfolder of my favorites menu (whether clicking or giving voice commands, this always happens if Dragon is turned on), and 2) Allow me to use Dragon with large MS Word files (right now, it takes about 5 minutes for it to respond when I have my 300 odd page novel in progress open).

The first thing wasn’t listed in their list of fixes (maybe this only happens to me? Or is it anybody with XP Pro?), so I wasn’t really expecting it to change.

The second thing was listed in their list of fixes, but nothing has changed since I installed the update, as far as I can tell. However, I only have 256 MB of RAM, and I know Dragon is a memory hog, so I wasn’t really expecting that to change, either (Don’t worry for me; I’m buying a new computer soon with a gig of RAM, woot!).

So, all in all, I wasn’t expecting Service Pack 2 to fix anything, and it lived up to its expectations. Everything seems the same to me. Why did I bother downloading this, you might ask? Naïve hope. When will I learn?

Depending on what you use Dragon NaturallySpeaking for, you may want to look over the list of “fixes”. Just maybe they actually fixed something that has been bugging you.
